Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: January 26 - 30, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,

Even though the temperature was low last week, the children’s passion for playing outdoors remained strong. Recently, we have been spending time exploring the larger areas of the farm, where the children observed the chickens, ran up and down the small stream, and tucked themselves away in the mud dome. In the forest, Jack Frost had coated the ground with a thin layer of ice. Although the frozen earth made digging difficult for little hands, the children tried their best to create dirt pies. A new outdoor activity last week was chalk. Our students were excited to decorate the trees, boards, and tables with colorful designs. Some children were immersed in this process and spent a whole hour coloring with chalk while saying, “Let’s color high and go up and down.”

In the classroom, we concluded our winter journey with the big, bold giant who had freezing feet. The giant traveled to a small town in search of help.  A little bird shared her feather with the giant, but the feather was too small to cover the giant’s feet. A cuddly hedgehog snuggled close to provide warmth, but his prickly quills made the giant uncomfortable. Finally, a kind gnome brought two bits of beautiful wool. The giant used the wool to wrap his feet, and the cold he felt was no longer there. This grateful giant thanked everyone for their help and went home content. This story was presented in a simple yet magical way. The giant was made of a piece of silk, which caught the children’s attention right away. During free play, many children asked teachers for help creating their own giants. Uploaded to our class drive is a video with instructions for making a silk giant. Please feel free to take a look if you’d like to try making one at home with your child.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Sully’s birthday with his family. We enjoyed a lovely day together, and thank you so much for the delicious birthday treats.

This week, a new song, “The North Wind Does Blow,” will be sung in our morning circle. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will celebrate Jacob and Jameson’s birthdays. We look forward to sharing these special moments with them and their families. On Saturday, we will host our second curriculum meeting, where we will explore the four temperaments through a Waldorf lens. Understanding temperaments can be a valuable tool in supporting young children’s development. Following the meeting, we will hold our All School Meeting. We sincerely appreciate your support for our community, and we hope to see you on Saturday!
