Second & Third Grade: February 2 - 6, 2026

Hello Second and Third Grade Families,

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Curriculum and All School Meeting on Saturday morning. Coming together and sharing conversations as a community helps strengthen both our class and our school.

Last week, the class concluded their measurement block with a review of length, weight, volume, and time. The children also learned about money from around the world, as well as American currency. They practiced counting, adding, and subtracting money, and each created a pretend shop to practice spending it. The topic of money led to many thoughtful and interesting conversations, including “Why can’t we make more money so everyone has enough?”

Last week, the class was also able to engage in some fun winter activities. The area behind our platform was filled with puddles, which froze over the weekend. On Monday, the students were able to slide on the icy surface. Some even found creatures, such as a large frog, hibernating under the ice.

Our next block will take us around the world as the class hears fables from Polynesia, Chile, Brazil, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico, Japan, Romania, Haiti, and Australia. We will begin with the stories How the Coconut Tree Came to Be and The Story of the Hummingbird. This block will also focus on reading and writing skills, along with parts of speech and grammar. Already, the students have begun a writing piece about a person in their life who is special to them. They have chosen friends in previous classes, parents, younger siblings, and grandparents, and are excited to share them with you once they are completed.
