Second & Third Grade: February 9-13, 2026
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed a restful break with your families.
Before the break, the class began their block on Fables Around the World. They learned about Polynesian and Quechuan cultures, sang songs in the Polynesian language, and heard the stories Sina and the Eel and The Hummingbird and the Fire. In Main Lesson books, the students summarized the stories they heard. The class was surprised at how much more they are able to write now.
The Second and Third graders also focused on learning about common and proper nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. The class enjoyed reviewing the parts of speech through Mad Libs. Some of their Mad Libs were so funny that it was difficult to read them aloud. Fun was had by all!
In addition to academics, the class noticed the warmer weather brought the forest to life. On Wednesday, we saw hawks, lizards, frogs, a crane, and ducks. The water in the forest behind our platform has lowered to a level that it is safe for them to explore in their boots, which made for lots of muddy fun on Friday.
This week, the class will hear stories from Mexico, Brazil, and Japan, and learn a little about each culture. The grammar lessons will shift to prepositions and conjunctions, and will review the use of punctuation, with a focus on commas.
