Middle School: August 25-29, 2025

Hello, Middle School Families,

Last week, the class did various experiments working again with the Archimedes and Pascal principles.  Students enjoyed making their own Cartesian Dive, illustrating how density affects buoyancy. Various experiments and activities with small and large syringes helped to illustrate to students the relationship between surface area, force, and pressure. Many were surprised to discover that a smaller syringe actually exerts more pressure. These discoveries formed the basis for their understanding of how a hydraulic pump works, and using syringes and tubing, the class was able to experience how one works.

The class did biography work, learning about the life and discoveries of Blaise Pascal, with a particular focus on his discovery about air pressure. This week, the class will start diving into the implications of air pressure on weather.

Wordly Wise started this week, as well as our new class reader, and math classes are well underway.  I look forward to seeing everyone at curriculum night at our indoor classroom to discuss our year ahead! As a reminder, Eighth Grade parents, we’ll meet afterwards to discuss the Eighth Grade Trip.
