Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: September 8-12, 2025

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families

Last week has passed so fast! We finished our first puppet show. The children enjoyed the story “The Journey to the Garden.” It is about a little bluebird learning to fly and finding his way into a wonderful place called “the garden” with his mother. In this garden, the little bluebird made new friends, learned new songs, and grew every day. Stories can be used in Waldorf education to help students acquire confidence, process life transitions, learn social skills, and more. When young children hear a story for an extended period of time, they are more likely to build deep connections with the characters and internalize the ideas conveyed in the story, which might then manifest themselves in spontaneous play. Another highlight of the week is our morning walks to the farm. While the children fed and petted the donkeys and goats, they developed the important senses of connection, empathy, and caring.

As we all settled into our daily rhythm, we also established a predictable weekly rhythm. Instead of using abstract names for the days, different activities are planned throughout the week, which creates a concrete and meaningful framework.

Monday: Puppet Show and Chopping Apple Day

Tuesday: Puppet Show and Art Day

Wednesday: Game and Farm Day

Thursday: Puppet Show, Chopping Apple, and Art Day

Friday: Game and Farm Day

The Bluebirds thoroughly enjoyed our shared snacks in the classroom. As we gathered around the table, lit the fire fairy, and recited our blessings, we created a reverent moment in which the children could slow down and refresh their bodies with wholesome food. For the previous three weeks, children observed their teachers slice apples to prepare snacks. This week, we'll teach the children how to use age-appropriate choppers to slice apples and eat them with sun butter. To celebrate the Day of Courage, the children will listen to a new story called “The Very Hungry Dragon” for two weeks. Starting this week, we will also assist them with dyeing their own golden capes. Thank you for bringing in the beautiful golden flowers and turmeric powder. We can’t wait to see the children wearing their golden capes!
