Kindergarten Honeybees: September 15 - 19, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

We hope you all had a nourishing and joyful week together. Here is a peek into our days in the forest before our autumn break.

Thank you for collecting flowers for our cape dyeing project. It was a wonderful success! The children delighted in pulling the flower petals and goldenrod from their stems, gathering them in their hands, and smelling the sweet fragrance. Together we placed all our collected petals into a tea towel and tied it up into a little bundle, which one of the children fittingly called our “sack of gold.”

This sack of gold was placed into our warm turmeric water, and we watched in wonder as the tea towel transformed from white to yellow. The children took turns, one by one, gently stirring their cape in the golden water until it turned bright yellow. Such practical artistic activities allow children to experience the living colors of nature, witness transformation through a process, and engage their will in purposeful work. These experiences nurture reverence, patience, and a connection to the natural world around them.

By Wednesday, our golden capes were dry, and our felted shooting stars were also ready. In keeping with our story, each child was asked before receiving their cape and star:

“Are you brave and true?”

“Are you kind and thoughtful?”

“And did you hear the singing of the stars?”

Each student joyfully responded, “Yes!”

We shared a puppet show of our “Day of Courage” story, which the children acted out the following day in their own play. In Waldorf, puppet plays and acting out the story invite children into the imaginative life of a story and then allow them to embody it themselves. This progression from inward picture to outward expression helps the child’s imagination take root, while also fostering social harmony and collaboration.

The children brought our story to life. Princess Cleolinda stood tall in her castle (our slide), the three gnomes huddled in their cave beneath the climbing dome, the shooting stars waited for nightfall, and George and his parents tended a beautiful village garden. Meanwhile, our special Dragon dwelled in its cave by the hammock. George and Princess Cleolinda went on quite an adventure that required much courage and heart. Each child stepped wholeheartedly into their role, working together with sweet giggles and harmony.
