Fourth & Fifth Grade: September 15 - 19, 2025

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

Happy autumn! I hope you and your children had a wonderful break and enjoyed plenty of time outdoors to witness the beautiful transition of the seasons.

Before break, our class dove deep into square and triangular numbers, exploring patterns and connections between them. We also reviewed factor trees and long division. From there, students learned helpful strategies for determining whether a large number is divisible by 2, 5, or 10 before actually solving the problem. To solidify their understanding, the class participated in a series of math challenges and scavenger hunts where they had to prove their educated guesses. After a full week of review, students continued practicing some of these skills over the break.

In Language Arts, students worked on their improvisational storytelling skills, focusing on how to add detail to their writing. In one activity, each student selected a story topic. Then, using the anonymous descriptions created by classmates, students crafted and presented their own unique stories. Over the break, they also had the chance to continue developing their descriptive writing skills by retelling the Tale of Two Kings up to where we left off.

This week, the students are reviewing everything learned before the break and diving deeper into divisibility tricks to strengthen students’ mathematical thinking—especially when it comes to solving division problems more efficiently and effectively. By the end of the week, our Tale of Two Kings saga will be wrapped up, and the class will finally discover which king will be crowned the ultimate winner!
