Middle School: November 10-14, 2025
Hello, Middle School Families,
Last week, students worked diligently on their biography project, using their organized notes to write their essay. Students learned the nuts and bolts of research writing, citing sources, and creating a bibliography. The class had a discussion about plagiarism and how to go about summarizing research into their own words, and when to use quotation marks. After the class lamented about all the steps involved in writing their biography, we talked about how Abraham Lincoln famously said, “If I had three hours to chop a tree, I’d spend two hours sharpening the axe,” and how that related to all the work they had put into researching, organizing notes, writing a draft, and editing. The final copy is just the last small piece - the bulk of the work is done on the front end!
Students also worked on their accompanying illustration. Some are choosing to draw a portrait of their selected person, while others are illustrating a scene or important aspect of their subject's life. They have been working so hard, and are really excited to share their work with the class during presentations this week.
At the same time, history continues to march on! The class heard about and imagined the first battle of the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and covered the major battles of the war. We ended with the Congress approving the Constitution and Washington elected the first President of the United States.
We celebrated Pynthalir’s birthday last week as well with a class luncheon inside. Happy birthday, Pynthalir!
In preparation for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, our class has written a collective poem called “Middle School’s Gratitude List,” which they are looking forward to presenting. Taking inspiration and some excerpts from other poems, they have compiled something they are all really proud to have written. We look forward to seeing you there!
