Kindergarten Chickadees: December 1-5, 2025
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
It was wonderful having the students back in class this week, filling the classroom with work, play, and joy. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the class learned about the parts of a book, then created the covers for their painting and drawing books for the semester. These books will tell a “story” of your child’s creative experience during the first part of the school year, displaying their paintings or drawings in chronological order behind the cover. When drawing, the students were asked to take a minute to think about what they would want the cover of their story to look like. For the painting cover, all three paint colors were used at once for the first time. The paint also revealed a surprise that had been added to the paper with a beeswax candle.
This week, we hope you can join us for our Winter Spiral walk on Wednesday, December 10th, at 9:15 am. Watching each child’s inner light shine in their own beautiful and unique way as they walk the spiral and choose just the right place to set their candle is a miraculous event to behold. The students will also create their own dipped wax candles to take home this week. Next week, for the final week of the Fall semester, we will have a special activity and snack each day. They are as follows:
Monday: Pomander craft and popcorn
Tuesday: Cinnamon stick stars and vegan cocoa
Wednesday: Pajama and Stuffed animal day, and oatmeal with maple syrup (stuffed animal must fit in zipped backpack, please)
Thursday: Apple slice bird feeders, and graham crackers
Friday: Pajama and Stuffed animal day # 2 (stuffed animal must fit in zipped backpack, please), and vegan pancakes.
Announcements & Reminders:
Next week, the week of December 15th, we are inviting families to read a winter-themed picture book to the class after morning circle. Please feel free to join us for the morning circle, then stay and read a book to the class. No media- or marketed character-themed books, please. You can sign up to read here.
Rest mats will go home on your child’s last day of school next week. Please wash them and return them after the break.
Our Admissions Team will be holding tours designed to address community questions regarding the phases of child development and our Waldorf-inspired curriculum. A combined Kindergarten tour and a Grades tour will be offered on:
Wednesday, December 10th, at 9:30 am
Saturday, December 13th, at 10:00 am
Wednesday, January 7th, at 9:30 am
