Second & Third Grade: December 1-5, 2025
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Last week, the children learned about the Pomo people of Northern California. They explored elements of Pomo culture and listened to traditional stories, including Coyote and the Grasshoppers. The class also practiced addition and subtraction fact families, as well as multiplication and division fact families. During extra main lesson time, the children wrote imaginative stories about gingerbread houses and the characters who inhabit them.
This week, the class will learn about the Sioux and Navajo peoples and hear the stories Brave Bear and the Ghosts, Song of the Thrush Hermit, and How the Stars Fell to the Sky. The students will continue to strengthen their creative writing skills as they complete their gingerbread house stories. Once their stories are completed, each will create their own gingerbread house dioramas to accompany their work. On Friday, the class will enjoy a special lesson in which they will bake cookies in preparation for Santa Lucia Day, which we will celebrate at The Benton House of Woodstock on December 15th.
The students are practicing a song for the celebration that you can sing at home:

Our Admissions Team will be holding tours designed to address community questions regarding the phases of child development and our Waldorf-inspired curriculum. A combined Kindergarten tour and a Grades tour will be offered on:

Wednesday, January 7th, at 9:30 am
