Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: April 13 - 17, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,

Last week, the children enthusiastically participated in our spring circle. A new song, A Little Seed, caught their attention as they used silk as their “seeds” and watched the silk flowers bloom while they sang:

A little seed for me to sow,A little earth to make it grow.A little sun,A little shower,A little wait,And then a flower.

To echo the planting theme, the children worked together in the forest to plant marigold seeds in the small pots they had painted before spring break. They carefully used shovels to scoop dirt from the bag and pour it halfway into the pots. Then, they gently dropped the tiny seeds into the soil and finally covered them with more dirt. Each day, the children watered the seeds and hoped they would grow quickly.

In the classroom, Bluebirds used the three primary colors to paint for the first time. As new colors appeared on the paper through mixing, they were in awe and eager to show one another their creations. Many shared that they painted beautiful rainbows.

During free play time, water became the main element in their play. Some children used water and brushes to “paint” the wooden house in the small playground; others used it to wash the big trucks in the forest, while some painted on tree trunks with water. Water play not only awakes the senses but also sparks curiosity for nature. In Waldorf education, we seek to protect young children’s imaginative lives and their wonder for the natural world. Instead of providing a direct answer, we encourage them to learn through self-exploration, observation, and imaginative play. One child was particularly amazed by the process of pouring water. When he poured a big pot of water in a small pan, his eyes lit up as the water flowed out of the container. He repeated this action, again and again, trying to figure out why the water couldn’t fit in different containers. At the moment, the answer to “why” did not matter to him; rather, it was the process itself that brought him joy and deep satisfaction.

On Friday, we celebrated Jace’s early birthday. We were so grateful to spend a special morning with Jace and his family. Thank you for the delicious birthday treats.

Starting last week, our rising kindergarteners began their observations in the Chickadees, Turtles, and Honeybees classrooms. We received positive feedback and are proud of each child’s growth. More observations will be scheduled throughout the month; please look out for emails from Admissions for additional information.

In honor of Earth Day, the children will paint with blue and yellow to create earth on paper this week. And we will continue our journey with Jack the rabbit and his giant carrot in story time. Our spring auction will take place this Friday, and we look forward to seeing you for the event. Thank you so much for your effort to make our Bluebirds auction project unique and beautiful.
