Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: May 4 - 8, 2026
Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,
Thank you so much for this wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. The beautiful plants, delicious food, thoughtful gifts, and original art work brought us so many lovely surprises. Your generosity and support are deeply appreciated.
In the classroom, the students have been enjoying the story The Caterpillar and the Butterfly. When Lady Spring was working in her garden, she found a sad-looking caterpillar and asked why he wasn’t feeling the joy of spring like the other creatures in the garden. The little caterpillar said he wasn’t confident enough to fly, and he was sad because he didn’t have many beautiful colors. Lady Spring offered to help the little caterpillar build a silk house where he could rest and grow. As Lady Spring sang:
Caterpillar, wind about,
Round and round, and in and out.
When you are fed,
Come spin your bed.
Go to sleep, deep, deep.
As the caterpillar is sleeping,
Waken as a butterfly.
The little caterpillar fell asleep in his silky house for many days. When he woke up, he stretched his body and realized he had beautiful wings. He flew out of his silky house and fluttered through Lady Spring’s garden with joy.
After listening to this story, the children all came to the table and asked to softly touch the puppets. Many asked questions such as, “Where did the caterpillar go?”, “Did he really turn into a butterfly?”, and “Is this real magic?” With the gentle answer, “The little caterpillar turned into a butterfly,” the children smiled brightly and seemed to understand this amazing metamorphosis. As this school year comes to an end, the Bluebirds students are also completing their own transformation. At the beginning of the school year, they were learning each other’s names, how to play together, and how to navigate in our rhythm and environment. Now, they move confidently throughout the day, work cooperatively to achieve goals, and show genuine care for one another. We are truly proud of their growth this year.
Last week, the children made beautiful butterflies. They learned to use pipettes to pick up colors and delicately release them onto coffee filters. Throughout this school year, the Bluebirds students explored a variety of art mediums and created many amazing projects. Their imaginative inner worlds were beautifully expressed through their artwork, while their fine motor skills were steadily developed through engaging in these activities.
This week, our final story, The Big Bird and the Little Bird, will be told in class. As some of our older Bluebirds prepare to fly on to kindergarten, we want to help our younger friends understand this transition. It is not goodbye, but rather a new chapter for the older Bluebirds, and we wish them great achievement and happiness ahead.
This Thursday and Friday will be the last two days for our two-day students. We will cherish our time together by eating delicious yogurt and popsicles, making beautiful candles, as well as playing with bubbles in the forest. We hope you have a wonderful summer, and we can’t wait to see our two-day Bluebirds again in August!
