Fourth & FIfth Grade: March 3 - 7, 2025

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

First of all, a big thank you to Gayathri for treating our class to a delicious homemade Indian feast! The students enjoyed the flavors and traditions of Indian cuisine, and it was a beautiful way to celebrate the richness of different cultures.

Last week, the class immersed themselves in the research world—learning why research is important, how to conduct it, and how to find reliable information. We explored different parts of a book—the title, table of contents, index, glossary, and reference sections—to understand how they guide us in gathering knowledge. Students engaged in book exploration, practicing how to locate key facts efficiently.

The class was also introduced to two inspiring scientists who made incredible contributions to our understanding of the natural world:  Dr. Charles Henry Turner,  a groundbreaking scientist who discovered that insects, including ants and bees, are intelligent and capable of learning. His work changed how we study animal behavior.
Dr. Leela Hazzah – A conservationist who founded Lion Guardians, a program that transforms former lion hunters into lion protectors, showing how communities and wildlife can coexist. Students reflected on how curiosity, careful observation, and dedication can lead to discoveries that change the world.

This week, we begin our Botany Block, diving into the life of plants and their deep connection to the earth. Students will explore: how plants grow and change through the seasons; how plants rely on the sun, water, and soil for life; the parts of a plant and their roles—roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds; the importance of trees, forests, and biodiversity in our world.

Our lessons will be hands-on and artistic, including observation walks, detailed drawings, and nature-inspired storytelling. This block will inspire a sense of wonder and appreciation for the plant world.

Thank you, as always, for your support! Please let us know if you have any books or resources related to plants and botany that you’d like to share with the class.
