Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: January 12 - 16, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,

Thank you for your donations and participation in the MKL Day of Service. We are grateful for your commitment to our community.

Last week, Jack Frost visited our forest class, bringing crystal-clear ice for the children to explore. Using their strong muscles, they broke the ice into pieces and mixed it with muddy water. Some children even took off their gloves to feel the cool ice firsthand, saying, “I love to play with ice.” No matter the weather, the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for exploration continue to grow.

In the classroom, the story “Any Room for Me” captured everyone’s attention. The children were curious and eager to find out what would happen after the old man lost his mitten, and they were delighted to see a mouse, a bunny, a squirrel, a fox, and even a huge bear making a cozy home inside it. Some said, “Wow, there are so many animals.” In the end, the old man found his lost mitten and chose to share it with the animals, hoping to keep them warm throughout the long winter. Inspired by the story, many children began using the phrase “Any room for me?” when they wanted to join others’ play. It is heartwarming to see how deeply a story can live in young children’s hearts.

Although we couldn’t share a warm home with the animals as the old man did, we found another way to show our care by making birdfeeders for our feathered friends. The children worked together to mix gelatin, water, flour, and seeds, then carefully filled muffin cups with the mixture. Once the seeds had set and formed shapes, the children were excited to take their bird feeders home to hang in the trees.

As the weather gets colder, we bring our morning energy inwards. Drawing, painting, playing with homemade playdough, and lacing are some of the activities the children enjoy doing. This week, we will continue to paint with blue watercolor with a little surprise at the end. After painting, each child will sprinkle salt on their paper, which will create beautiful and unexpected effects. On Wednesday, we are going to celebrate Sully’s birthday. We look forward to spending this special day with him and his family!
