Kindergarten Chickadees: January 12 - 16, 2026
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Thank you for showing up for our community this Monday during our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Whether you donated food, packed lunches, made cards, delivered lunches, or participated or learned in your own way at home, we appreciate you. Thank you for being part of this loving community.
The Chickadee students have deeply taken in the story of the Kaza Jizo. They had the opportunity to experience it through both puppet shows and acting it out in a play last week, and began to re-enact the story during free play. The children put on their own puppet shows and plays, showing particular enjoyment in pretending to be the old man placing the warm caps on the Jizos’ heads. This week, we will begin a new story about the goddess Brigit and Imbolc. This story highlights the importance of hard work, community, and kindness to strangers.
Last week’s weather was perfect for our morning circle about King Winter and Jack Frost bringing cold and ice to the land. The circle includes songs and verses that allow the students to practice bundling up for the cold weather, along with cutting down trees and chopping firewood. Next week, the children will begin learning a new song to add to the current circle. The new song will include several animals and the different ways they keep safe and warm in the cold. The Chickadees also sing a special song on cold mornings to help them remember what order to put on their gear. It can be extra challenging to get dressed with gloves on, or to put on snow pants when boots are already on, for example. Ask your child to share the song with you; they know it well! The words are sung to the tune of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”:
Pants, Coat, Hat and Scarf
Boots and Gloves, Boots and Gloves
Pants, Coat, Hat and Scarf
Boots and Gloves
