Second & Third Grade: January 26 - 30, 2026
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us at The Center of Puppetry Arts! The children loved traveling to the city, viewing the different exhibits, seeing The Dragon King, and making a marionette.
Last week, the class continued their study of measurement by learning about weight. On Monday, they spent time weighing different objects in the classroom and comparing them on a scale. The students explored making objects of equal weight, such as how many pencils equal the weight of one eraser, and learned that objects that take up the same amount of space do not always weigh the same, such as water weighing slightly more than vegetable oil. On Tuesday, they weighed their backpacks, and they discussed different places where scales are used, such as the post office, the airport, and the grocery store. On Thursday, the class built a small bird feeder, then measured its length and weight, and checked how much volume it would hold.
This week, we will review the measurement of time and money. Each student will create a model clock, and the class will look at the different tools that are used to measure time, such as a sand timer and sundial. The students will also explore American currency and currency around the world. The class will set up a pretend shop in the classroom all will have an opportunity to practice counting and spending their money. As a natural result, this week will also include a review of addition and subtraction skills.
