Joyful Beginning Hummingbirds: January 13 - 17, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbird Families,
Complete with discovering slushy, icy remains throughout our beloved forest space and a sweet story about a boy who wishes for mittens as white as the snow, last week was another slow, special week with the Hummingbirds. The children enjoyed serving each other “ice” tea in our outdoor kitchen, filling their dump trucks with frosty leaves, nature drawing in their new art books, and celebrating Vivianne’s 3rd birthday with a sweet visit from her family.
So many of the children mastered the ability to independently put on their jackets and boots over the break, and it has been a joy to watch them proudly show off these new skills, oftentimes accompanied by applause from their classmates when someone successfully completes a “jacket flip.” As children develop a more concrete sense of self around the age of three, there is a marked increase in independence as well as freedom and creativity in play. It is a privilege to watch the soft yet significant stage of life unfold.
This week and next, we will focus on preparing our class for upcoming transitions through both story and art. We will have a few special visits from Ki Pri as she prepares to step into the lead teacher role for a time. We will also introduce new techniques in painting as we experiment with blue and yellow watercolors.
We are looking forward to our combined class auction project with the Bluebirds!

*Note on conferences: In light of my upcoming maternity leave, please note that spring conferences for the Hummingbirds will be scheduled for the month of April instead of 2/6 and 2/7 as the school calendar indicates. Scheduling options will be sent out closer to those dates. In the meantime, please reach out directly with any questions about your child’s school experience!

2/1: All School Meeting - 12:30 p.m. (adults only, community encouraged to attend)
