Second & Third Grade: August 11-14, 2026

Dear Second and Third Grade Families,

What a wonderful new start to the year! The class is rich in personalities, interests, and talents. On the first day of school, students enthusiastically supported the Middle Schoolers as they prepared for the Rose Ceremony rehearsal by acting the part of First Graders receiving roses and crossing the bridge. This Second and Third class is such a fun group who seems to be up for exploring and helping! We are lucky to have an active parent community, too; thank you to those families who volunteered for and attended the ceremony. The flowers and bridge formed the perfect set for the ceremony.

After the ceremony, students told stories from their summer break over snack time before reconnecting with one another on the playground. There were many students who, despite being more reserved last year, willingly volunteered their stories, some multiple times! Once back in the classroom, all students shared their insights on what a successful, healthy classroom looks, sounds, and feels like. They demonstrated impressive awareness of what is needed for the wellbeing of themselves, their schoolmates, their teachers, and their environment. The genuine care they are already showing for one another is a sign of their inner light and maturity. Still, they are all still learning (and who is not?), and the school is here to support them on their journey through thick and thin.

Students were excited to use their beautiful new art materials to begin the pages of their first Main Lesson book of the year! They will create illustrations and writing about the selection of Aesop’s fables they are listening to along with lessons in spelling and grammar. In support of the class reading challenge, students began filling out their reading logs as a testament to and celebration of reading 18 suitably challenging books of their choice: approximately one for every two school weeks. Please take time to support this valuable endeavor at home!
