Middle School: August 17-21, 2026
Dear Middle School Families,
It is the third week of school and our last week of Geometric drawing. This work is useful in shaping a new class where creating structure and form is a priority. The Middle School students have already explored the many possibilities of the numbers three, four, six, and 12 in forming polygons and designs. Now we are moving on to the more difficult constructions using the numbers five, seven, nine, and 11. All of these constructions utilize the 360-degree circle - a mathematical construct that we will, shortly, transpose onto the nighttime sky in the form of the celestial equator and the prime meridian which define Astronomical observation. In this way the students learn that mathematics and geometry connect the heavens and the Earth.
In math, the Sixth graders are reviewing decimals while the Seventh and Eighth graders are continuing with Algebra. The Cyber Civics curriculum includes the ways that technology can both connect and disconnect people. Finally, the class has also begun working with vocabulary, reading comprehension, and weekly spelling tests.
