Middle School: February 9-13, 2026

Hello, Middle School Families,

Welcome back from what was hopefully a wonderful Mid Winter break! It was lovely to see everyone at the Lunar New Year performance. The students should be so proud of how they did - they practiced a lot! Job well done, fan-dancers!

The week before break, lessons continued with the Geography of Africa block. The class looked at the political map of Africa, working on drawing each country on the continent. Students listened to stories from Africa’s rich history, tracing back through some of the great early civilizations, empires, and kingdoms. Africa is a land of many firsts, such as the birthplace of humanity, the first universities, and even the first chemical discovery of glue! After taking notes, students wrote an essay synthesizing their learning. For the next part of the block, each student has chosen a country in Africa to study in depth, learning about their country’s history and highlighting an important part of their country of study, such as a biography, an important historical site or event, or an industry. As a class we are reading African Icons: Ten People Who Shaped History by Tracey Baptiste. The students have really enjoyed hearing the stories!

Finally, we celebrated Asher’s birthday the week before break! Happy birthday, Asher!
