Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: February 23-27, 2026
Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,
Last week brought a true taste of seasonal change, with icy winter weather followed by warm spring rain. Thank you so much for dressing your children according to the weather! Appropriate layers support young children to regulate their body temperatures and stay comfortable outdoors. We have noticed wonderful progress with independence. Many of the older children can confidently dress themselves in their outdoor pants and jackets, while the younger children are steadily working toward that goal. Thank you for practicing these important skills with your children at home.
Earlier in the week, discovering pots and buckets of ice in the forest was the highlight of the week. The children eagerly set to work, using shovels and spoons to chip and crack the ice. After the rain fairy visited us, the play naturally shifted to jumping in the puddles, playing with mud, and digging for worms. Our forest environment truly allows the children to experience the change of seasons, deepen their connection to nature, and build resilience along the way.
In the classroom, we started our week by sharing our last winter circle. The children learned a verse and a song about a chickadee, bringing a gentle close to the winter season.
Chickadee, chickadee, flying through the bare trees.
With your cap and scarf of black, sweatshirt of gray upon your back.
You are so warm and happy in the sun.
When I hear your call,
I know my little friend has come to say that the cold weather is fun for play.
Trees are bare, everywhere,
Wind is blowing and skies are grey.
Yet one bird, may be heard,
On a chilly day.
Ask his name, he’ll reply.
Cocking up the roguish eye.
Chickadee, chickadee, chickadee-dee-dee.
This week, we will turn our focus back to our auction project. Before the break, the children used modeling clay to create their little birds and round beads. This Wednesday and Friday, we warmly invite you to join us in the forest to paint these pieces with your children. Please meet us on our platform at 11:45. On Friday, we will also celebrate Finnegan’s early birthday! We are very excited to share a special morning with Finnegan and his family!
