Middle School: February 23-27, 2026
Hello, Middle School Families,
Last week, the Middle School class worked diligently during Main Lesson on their individual country projects. Each student created several Main Lesson pages for their chosen country. They researched and drew the flag, a geographical map of the country, and a timeline detailing the important events in the country’s history. Finally, the students could dive into an area of choice and create a main lesson page about that topic. Students chose multiple different topics, ranging from endangered birds to artists, food, and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
After displaying their hand-drawn covers in our classroom for a few weeks, each student chose a cover and bound their authored short story. We have a basket of stories in the classroom now for our students to read each other's work. They are all incredibly proud of their stories and are so excited to share them with each other.
The Eighth Graders have begun an Algebra elective twice a week. This is in addition to the math track class and supports our Eighth graders as they look towards entering high school next year. In the Math track class, students continue to work with Percents and Growth, analyzing data using a Growth Rate Table. Class conversations have delved into personal finance, as well as the benefits of compounding interest. Additionally, students learned about the Rule of 72, using it as an approximate calculation of the time required to double at a given percent.
On Friday, Ki Nicole taught the Fourth/Fifth and Middle School class about the history and origins of the martial arts dance, Capoeira. The Fourth/Fifth grade’s block on West African Folk tales dovetailed beautifully with the Middle School block on the Geography of Africa. Capoeira has origins in Angola, one of the countries Pipor was studying. It was a lot of fun, and the class enjoyed learning how to keep the Àṣẹ (good energy/vibes) and also several moves. Thank you, Ki Nicole!
Finally, we celebrated Ana’s birthday! Happy birthday, Ana!
