Kindergarten Turtles: October 6 - 10, 2025
Greetings, Turtle Families,
Thank you all for meeting during conferences. It was so nice to have the time to talk with you about your children. We are grateful for each and every Turtle and what they bring to our class. It was lovely to be able to share with you about their growth and learning so far this year. Your support is so important, and it is truly an honor to work with the community of families that make up the Turtle class.
The fall weather has been refreshing, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Please remember to send your children in layers, so that they are comfortable as the temperatures change throughout the day.
It was rainy during the week, so we visited the farm on Tuesday, instead of the creek. The children were thrilled to spend time with the donkeys, goats, and chickens! On our walk to the farm, we collected kudzu and had so much fun feeding it to Freida and Pacem (the donkeys) and Marshmallow and Caramel (the goats).
It is apple-picking season, and our story, “How the Apple Got Its Star”, is about a Great Apple Tree who loves to gaze at the stars each night, and a star fairy who uses her magic wand to place a star inside each apple on its branches. The children were amazed when we cut open apples to find the stars hidden inside. On Wednesday, we made apple prints with red paint and one of our cut apples. We have also been playing a circle game where we pass wooden apples around the circle while singing My Nice Red Rosy Apple (lyrics and a link to the music are below). This is a collaborative game that involves cross-body coordination and proprioceptive development. Our Autumn circle also incorporates more challenging movements, such as galloping, and we even go on a small adventure through the forest to harvest a pumpkin. More lyrics and songs from our circle will be shared in the weeks to come.
My Nice Red Rosy Apple
My nice red rosy apple,
Has a secret hid unseen.
You'd see, if you could look inside,
Five rooms so neat and clean.
In each room, there are living,
Two pips so black and bright.
Asleep, they are a-dreaming
Of lovely warm sunlight.
Asleep, they are a-dreaming
Of many things to be.
How one day they will grow
into a great big apple tree.
