Kindergarten Honeybees: October 6 - 10, 2025
Dear Honeybee Families,
Thank you for joining me last week for parent-teacher conferences. It has been such a blessing to get to know your precious children and to witness their growth, joy, and the wonder of childhood through their eyes. Thank you for entrusting them to our care and allowing us the opportunity to be part of their lives in our beautiful forest environment.
It truly feels that fall has arrived with these gusty, cool, and crisp mornings and the satisfying crunch of leaves beneath our feet. Our forest classroom has been graced with frequent visits from geese migrating south overhead. One morning during circle time, as we sang our good morning song and reached the words “and the birds flying free,” a flock of geese flew right over our classroom, their wings flapping in rhythm with our own. What a gift it is to witness life happening around us and experience our place within it.
The mud kitchen has been a lively and popular spot this week, bustling with the creation of mud pies, mud muffins, and all sorts of muddy “drinks.” At the excavation site, children have been hard at work unearthing piles of rocks from the ground, delighting in the various shapes and inspecting them with great care. Additionally, each morning, the children eagerly check on the progress of the seeds we planted. The first sprouts to appear were the arugula, followed by the beets, and then the beans. It is amazing to see them grow even within the course of a single day.
Some students took part in raking pathways throughout our classroom space, while others have been diligently working on their handwork projects. The children are using felt to sew little stuffies of their own design. It is wonderful to see what each child will come up with. Some have chosen animals such as a puppy, rabbit, cat, or mouse, while others have created treasures like a rainbow, a tree, or even a raspberry that later transformed into a mermaid! It brings such joy to get a glimpse of the children’s inner worlds as they express them through their creative endeavors.
Next week, we look forward to sharing a special snack inspired by the story “Stone Soup,” which we have been telling. We will have a play of our story and make our very own stone soup. Please have your child bring one organic vegetable on Monday morning to contribute to our soup. Thank you for being part of this lovely tradition!
