Middle School: October 6 - 10, 2025

Hello, Middle School Families,

Thank you for joining me for parent conferences on Thursday and Friday. It’s always a pleasure to meet and share about your children’s growth. Thank you also to everyone who joined for the workday on Saturday!

As a whole class, we spent time last week reviewing the class reader, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, dissecting the structure of the story: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Students worked on a graphic organizer together to help them prepare for writing an essay on the book.

In Math Block, Ki Lesley’s class continued to work on constructing the Platonic Solids, completing the nets for the tetrahedron, octahedron, and the dodecahedron. This is precise work, as it requires students to think about how to draw the polyhedra in a 2-D form, so that it can be cut out and folded together to make the 3-D shape. The Loci exploration continued with the discovery of an ellipse, parabola, and hyperbola. In Ki Melissa’s Math Block, the class continued creating a variety of nature-based designs as they experienced the six-division of the circle using overlapping circles. The students also worked with the 12-division of the circle, creating a beautiful repeating design. Decimal work has focused on money and making change for the upcoming bake sale at the Kingdom of Halloween, as well as a review of dividing decimals using whole numbers.

We look forward to seeing everyone at The Kingdom of Halloween. If you haven’t already, please make sure to sign up to make a pie (or two!). This year, we are making both Apple and Pumpkin pies. Please sign up here. Recipes included in the link.
