Fourth & Fifth Grade: October 6 - 10, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to come in for conferences! Your insights and observations were greatly appreciated.
This week, our class began their third Main Lesson block: Botany I, which has already been filled with engaging and hands-on activities! We kicked off with a plant scavenger hunt, where students searched for fun and surprising facts about plants. We also took a nature walk around our forest campus, using the opportunity to practice descriptive writing about the plants, insects, and fungi we encountered along the way.
As we embrace the harvest season and prepare for colder months, we’ve begun our first preservation project: preserving strawberries. This activity allows students to explore how people stored crops before modern refrigeration and freezing methods. Over the next three weeks, we’ll observe how the strawberries change and record our findings in our journals.
We also started preparations for our seed-sprouting experiment. Over the weekend, the class soaked mung beans, hoping they would germinate and eventually be added to our classroom sprout house. Next week, we’ll experiment with sprouting other types of seeds and explore which conditions help them grow best.
If you have any seeds from fruits enjoyed at home, we’d love your contributions! Just wash them and send them to school with your child. We’re excited to expand our sprout house with your help.
