Kindergarten Chickadees: November 3 - 7, 2025

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you for joining us for the Lantern Walk last week!  It was a joy to share this reverent celebration of inner light shining through the darkness with the children and caregivers alike.

It was an exciting week in the Chickadee class, filled with autumnal wonder and celebration. The students finished their lanterns and practiced walking with them through the forest before the Lantern Walk on Thursday evening. Each child was awed to see their completed work of art, even without a lit candle inside. In a more active sensory activity, the children scooped seeds and strings from the inside of two small pumpkins and talked about parts of the pumpkins and what they could be used for. After they were cleaned out, the students used child-safe pumpkin carving knives to make holes and shapes of their choosing to create pumpkin lanterns for the class. These lanterns were worked on throughout the week and will be lit daily next week.

Last week, one of the students from the Turtle class brought a full, intact shed skin from their Ball python, and the Turtle class generously shared the opportunity to look at and gently touch the skin with the Chickadees. The following day, the Chickadee students saw our resident rat snake visiting our classroom. They decided they would like to name the snack since it visits regularly, and the class will suggest and vote on names this week. A new song will be introduced to the morning circle as we prepare to move into a new season of cooler weather and changes in the forest. This song will continue into the new circle after Thanksgiving break, while the other songs will be replaced with new and exciting songs and verses.

Announcements & Reminders:

We are looking forward to seeing families at the Thanksgiving Luncheon!  Students who do not usually attend school on Fridays are encouraged to attend with their families during the luncheon; siblings and extended family are welcome. Please RSVP to Ki Holly by Wednesday, November 19th, via email with the names of the guests attending. Please also attend the Grade Presentation at 10:30 am to hear some lovely music and see our Grade program in action. When you arrive for the luncheon, your child will be signed out to your care for the remainder of the morning.

Some families have asked for resources regarding dressing for the cooler weather. One of the best resources is the school’s clothing guide, which can be found here. A couple of other excellent resources regarding layering are here and here.

If you are interested in a couple of easy, at-home volunteer hours, our class is looking for someone to take home drawing and painting paper over the Thanksgiving break to cut and round corners. Please reach out to Ki Holly via email if you are interested.
