Kindergarten Honeybees: November 3 - 7, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

Thank you for joining us for our lovely Lantern Walk evening last week. We hope you felt the quiet magic and reverence of the night, the glow of our lanterns reflecting the light we carry within as we move into the darker days of the year. This past week our Honeybee class was full of joy and celebration. In addition to our lantern walk, we marked two birthdays- dear Alexandra’s and dear Xander’s. We  were delighted to welcome their families to share stories from their early years.

For handwork, the children wet-felted soft wool into beautiful pumpkin necklaces. Using larger tufts of wool, they rolled and shaped them carefully in their palms, adding gentle “raindrops” of soapy water to help the fibers bind. Once dry, we wrapped their pumpkins with thread to form ridges, bringing each little pumpkin to life. Such work strengthens the will forces in the hands and fingers, nurtures patience and perseverance, and allows the children to experience transformation through the warmth and rhythm of their own movement. We also explored a real pumpkin together! The children used an axe to break it open and were fascinated as they examined the inside- touching the seeds, observing the color and scent, and sorting and counting the seeds. This sensory rich experience supports scientific curiosity and deepens their relationship with the natural world through direct encounter.

In the forest, we continued to care for our garden bed, joyfully discovering that our vegetables and flowers are growing, slowly but surely! We harvested lemon balm and rosemary from our garden to make a fragrant tea, which the children savored together. Such experiences nourish the senses, foster gratitude, and help the children feel rooted in the living rhythms of the earth. Throughout the week, the children collected natural treasures: acorns, feathers, smooth stones, and leaves, to place in a special “treasure box.” We have sent this box, along with the woolly butterflies we felted, as part of a heartfelt gift exchange with kindergarten children in South Africa, from the indigenous peoples of the land known as the !Kwa Ttu San. This exchange, lovingly arranged by Arya and family, offers the children a first experience of connection and cultural friendship across the world.

Announcements & Reminders:

We are looking forward to seeing families at the Thanksgiving Luncheon!  Students who do not usually attend school on Fridays are encouraged to attend with their families during the luncheon; siblings and extended family are welcome. Please RSVP to Ki Fatima by Wednesday, November 19th, via email with the names of the guests attending. Please also attend the Grade Presentation at 10:30 am to hear some lovely music and see our Grade program in action. When you arrive for the luncheon, your child will be signed out to your care for the remainder of the morning.

In addition to calling the school, please let your class teacher know before school starts if your child is staying home from school.
