Kindergarten Honeybees: November 10-14, 2025
Dear Honeybee Families,
We began our week with brisk, chilly mornings that gave way to golden, sunlit afternoons. Thank you for dressing the children in warm, comfortable layers, which allows them to move comfortably and remain content throughout our outdoor days. Our week was full of delightful surprises and joyful discoveries. For the first time, the children played at the large playground, where they delighted in the wide open space to run, explore, and crunch through the autumn leaves. The tire swing and tetherball brought laughter and cooperation, and to our surprise, we even experienced snow flurries.
In our forest classroom, the ground was carpeted with dry leaves. The children raked them into a great heap and joyfully leapt into their giant leaf pile, covered themselves in “leaf beds,” and took playful “leaf showers.” Through these moments, the children engage in full-bodied sensory play, experiencing texture, sound, rhythm, and one of the classic joys of autumn . Jump ropes were popular this past week as well. Some children enjoyed the challenge of jumping over the “wiggly worm,” while others proudly discovered they could jump-rope over the rope more than once. We also built an obstacle course, and children practiced balancing, climbing, and leaping- strengthening our coordination, confidence, and will forces.
One of the most wonderous of surprises of our week came as we were exploring the far reaches of our forest. Miraculously, we discovered a walnut tree, and our forest floor sprinkled with fallen nuts. The children eagerly rolled over the wagon, gathered the walnuts, and worked together to crack them open with mallets. We plan to use the walnut husks for a natural dyeing project, a process that connects the children to the cycles of nature and transforms what is found into something beautiful and useful.
For our story, an aging king called forth his three sons and gave them each nine days' time and one hundred golden coins to find the most beautiful thing in the world, promising his crown to the one who succeeded. The eldest prince returned with a magnificent painting, and the middle prince brought back a perfect pearl from a dragon’s cave. The youngest prince, however, spent all his golden coins helping the poor and needy he met along the way. When the princes returned, the king praised the first two but declared that the youngest had found the true beauty of the world —a compassionate and kind heart —and crowned him the new king.
As we approach our Thanksgiving break, we are filled with gratitude for the warmth and joy your children bring to our days. Wishing you a restful and cozy holiday surrounded by peace and togetherness.
