Kindergarten Chickadees: October 13 - 17, 2025

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you for the wonderful turnout of volunteers and participants at the Kingdom of Halloween. It was a fantastic night of community and a joy to see so many families enjoying the season.

Felted apples are going home this week, and apple paintings have been added to your child’s semester painting book. Over the next couple of weeks, the students will make their lanterns for the upcoming lantern walk. The children will practice singing the songs as we walk through the classroom during morning circle, and walking to and from the building for scheduled bathroom breaks. Families are encouraged to practice these simple yet beautiful songs at home so you can sing with your child during the walk. The children will take their lanterns home after the walk, reminding them that they can always both find and be the light in the darkness.

Chores are beneficial for children as young as age two. Practical tasks that benefit the family are especially helpful when included in the daily rhythm, such as setting out the silverware for dinner each night or feeding a pet around the same time each morning. Daily chores help children feel a sense of accomplishment, responsibility, and trustworthiness, as well as being part of a community that works together. The students are all showing amazing willingness and ability to participate in practical work at school. If they do not already have chores at home, or you are interested in more information, this is an excellent article that includes lists of chores for children by age.

Announcements & Reminders:

As the season progresses with cooler mornings, please ensure your child is dressed in layers in the morning. If they do not wish to wear a longer layer, such as pants or a jacket, please have these items in their backpack. It reliably feels 10 degrees colder in the forest, and children often feel comfortable at drop-off but grow colder once we are in the forest classroom. If they come with warm layers, please have them wear a short-sleeved shirt underneath or put one in their backpack, as afternoons have been much warmer than the mornings. Thank you for your help in keeping the students comfortable.
