Kindergarten Turtles: October 13 - 17, 2025

Greetings, Turtle Families,

We continued the story, “How the Apple got Its Star”. During the week, the children created their very own adorable little apples using a process called wet-felting. Each student began with a ball of white wool batting and a tiny silver star.  They carefully tucked the star into the center of their apple. Then, using red wool roving, they fluffed and wrapped the fibers around the white ball until it was completely covered. Next, the now red ball of wool was dipped into warm soapy water, and the children rolled it back and forth in their hands to felt the fibers.  This experience, along with being a lovely sensory time, helps students to develop patience as the loose strands of roving slowly bind to each other to create a more solid form.    Later in the week, each student chose a small twig from the forest to use as a stem and cut some green cloth for a leaf, which they sewed onto their apple. Each apple was unique and beautiful and the children were proud to bring them home.

We furthered our connection to the story with a puppet show and story cards.  Our play, on Thursday, included a Great Apple Tree and a Star Fairy as the lead parts.  The other children were assigned the part of Star or Apple, and it was lovely to watch each of their personalities show as they interpreted what it meant to be a star or an apple in the story. It is such a pleasure to spend our days in the forest with your children!

On Tuesday, we celebrated Hazel’s 4th birthday. Her parents visited our class and shared memories from her birth and each year of her life.  Classmates, Teachers, and her parents shared a wish for the coming year.  Happy Birthday, Hazel.

Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered at Kingdom of Halloween. It was so nice to work with the Turtle Families to make this wonderful festival a reality for the children.  We hope you all had fun.  It was a magical night!

We have begun learning the songs for the Lantern Walk, coming up on November 6th.  I have added the music and lyrics to our shared Google photo album, if you would like to start learning the songs and signing them with your children at home.  Also, in preparation for the Lantern Walk, you are invited to come to class to help create our lanterns on Wednesday, 10/22, or Wednesday, 10/29.  Please visit the sign- up for a time here.
