Second & Third Grade: October 13 - 17, 2025
Dear Second and Third Grade Families,
What a fun time we had carving our pumpkin houses! They were a hit at the Kingdom of Halloween festival. Thank you to all of the parents who supported this festival in so many ways, from painting fish and balling yarn to volunteering at our booth. Events like this truly take the entire community to pull off, and I am so grateful for each of you.
In class, the children have been busy writing stories about a perfect fall day. Their ideas range from what a dinosaur would do in the fall weather, to watching the leaves turn colors, eating buckets of candy after trick-or-treating, and snuggling near a warm fire while drinking apple cider. The children are all growing in their writing skills and they enjoy the opportunity to share their work on Fridays. Look forward to the children bringing their finished stories home later this week!
To support their writing development, we have introduced diphthongs, which are single-syllable sounds made by two vowels gliding together, like the "oi" in coin or the "ou" in out. The children are also practicing the use of proper punctuation and capitalization. These skills were supported by the stories “The Bird of Many Feathers,” which reviewed controlled R spellings, “The Rooster and the Jewel,” which introduced diphthongs, and “The Frogs and the Milk,” which will introduce consonant blends this week.
During our morning circle time, we are continuing to practice multiplication skills, focusing on the 3s and 7s times tables. The children have enjoyed learning a clapping game to a song you might remember, Three is a Magic Number, and they are learning a dance to help practice their sevens times tables.
