Second & Third Grade: January 26 - 30, 2026
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Last week, the class learned all about telling time. The students made model clocks, practiced counting by fives, and created daily schedules using a clock. All were amazed to see just how much time a day they spend sleeping, and some were amazed at how late they go to bed in comparison to their peers (of course, this was from the perspective of children, and I’m sure none of them are actually going to bed at midnight). The students also explored other ways to tell time, such as sand timers and sundials, allowing them to explore the natural rhythms of time and the movement of the sun.
This week, the class is completing the measurement unit with a focus on money. Yesterday, the students learned about American currency, and today explored currencies from around the world. As a Waldorf-inspired curriculum strongly embraces experiential learning, the students will also enjoy earning money and spending it at a pretend shop. Throughout the week, there will be a strong focus on addition and subtraction skills, along with a review of measurement concepts, including length, volume, and weight.
We look forward to seeing you at the curriculum morning this Saturday, where you will hear an overview of spring semester main lesson blocks and collaborate on auction project planning! The spring All School Meeting immediately follows, to which all are cordially invited.
