Fourth & Fifth Grade: January 26 - 30, 2026

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

This week, the students wrapped up their final week of the Geometry Block. The class reviewed how to calculate the area and perimeter of triangles and quadrilaterals. In addition to traditional mathematics, the students had the opportunity to do various geometric art projects as well. The class worked on remembering the steps on how to recreate various string figures, such as Jacob’s Ladder, the Eiffel Tower, a star, and the witch’s broom. They worked on creating their final draft of the geometric web art. The students felt proud and accomplished for being able to complete the tedious project on their own. (This will be displayed outside our classroom, so you can view it next time you’re on campus.)

In our grammar studies, the students are working on using the various adverbs of frequency. Each did a writing activity, where they described things that are done in their everyday lives, ranging from always to seldom (one of their new vocabulary words of the week). The class will continue to work on incorporating new vocabulary words into their writing. This will come in handy when the class dives deeper into developing their overall writing skills.

Despite the super cold start to the week, the class continues to persevere through the morning Pentathlon training. This created the chance to visit the frozen and icy marsh. After taking the necessary precautionary measures, they had the opportunity to spend some of their free time enjoying this not so common experience. Even on the coldest of days, there’s beautiful nature to appreciate and explore.

Since the last day of the block was also the same day as a half birthday celebration, the class closed out the Geometry block in a festive way.  In February, the students will begin their seventh Main Lesson block: West African Mythology.
