Middle School: January 26 - 30, 2026
Hello, Middle School Families,
Last week wrapped up the Short Story Block for our Middle School students. The class read two final stories, The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, and Thank You, M’am by Langston Hughes. In addition to analyzing the elements of the story learned so far, the focus was on identifying overarching themes within a story. The students’ capacity for discussing stories has significantly increased over the course of the block, and awareness of story construction has influenced their writing as well.
Most of last week’s main lesson was devoted to Writer’s Workshop and editing their chosen story for their final block project. The students have all grown in their capacity to hear feedback and incorporate suggestions into their writing. It has been amazing to see the progression of their stories after each revision focus. Students also designed and illustrated a short story book cover for their published copy. They are all really proud of their final copies, as they should be!
I look forward to seeing you all this weekend at the Curriculum and All School Meeting. If you haven’t already, please take a look at the auction project ideas so that we can make a decision during our meeting.
Announcements & Reminders:
The Auction is arriving, and as mentioned in the parent chat, it is time to compile ideas for the Middle School Auction project! If you have an idea, please email me. From here, a list of all ideas will be created for parents to vote on. We also need a parent to lead/assist with the auction project for our class. Please let me know if you are interested.
