Kindergarten Turtles: February 2 - 6, 2026

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Thank you to everyone who attended the Curriculum Morning and the All School Meeting on Saturday. It was a wonderful morning filled with community, excitement, and growth. Our auction project is off to a great start. Kits will be handed out at carpool to families who were not able to attend. The meeting was full of energy and enthusiasm for our school's bright future.

Last week in our forest, Ki Derek took down a tree after it was found to be no longer firmly rooted in the ground. The children watched as their teacher sawed off the top portion - the part with the long poky branches. Then, they decided together where the remaining trunk should be placed. The trunk quickly became a new favorite play space. The children traverse it like a balance beam, using sticks and boards held in one or both hands to support their balance. They add obstacles to increase the challenge and experiment with new ways to move across it. It has been a joy to watch them use natural materials creatively and to see their excitement over something as simple – and magical- as a fallen tree trunk becoming part of our forest classroom.

As the cold weather continues, it remains very important that each child comes to school with plenty of warm layers. Each day, children need warm, waterproof pants, insulated boots, a coat, a hat, and gloves. We do have some extra borrowing layers in the classroom, but they are limited, and there have been recent days when all of the extras were in use. Please be sure to send your child with all of their gear every day. Time in the forest is much more fun and comfortable when everyone is bundled up and ready to play.

On Monday, we celebrated Ellis’ 5th birthday. Ellis’ parents and brother visited our class to share memories from his birth and each year of his life. Ellis was given wishes for the coming year by his family, teachers, and friends. Happy Birthday, Ellis!

Announcements and Reminders:

Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up on March 12th and 13th.  Please sign up for a time here. Conferences are held in person at the school. If you do not see a time that works for you, please email me. Conferences are planned for 20 minutes. If you feel you may need longer for your child's conference, please contact me before scheduling so we can work out a time that respects your time and that of other families. We ask that children not attend conferences, allowing us to communicate in confidence.

Rest mats will go home on your child’s last day of school this week, to be washed and returned over the break. Please take this opportunity to also wash all of their winter gear, especially gloves.
