Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: February 9-13, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,

Welcome back to school! Before mid-winter break, the children fully embraced the warmer weather. With fewer layers to wear, they stretched their bodies freely and bathed in the golden sunshine. In the forest, their imagination flourished. They ran swiftly, pretending to be magical dragons, without growing tired. Some children used chalk to draw intricate pictures on the board, such as airplanes, grass, and people. Some worked in a group to collect firewood to build the largest campfire. The children also worked thoughtfully on our auction project. They carefully rolled small balls and shaped birds out of clay for our Bluebird wind chime. We can't wait to see their hard work coming together in the final creation.

In the classroom, we completed our Valentine’s story about a forest village filled with sweet little gnomes. One morning, the gnomes planted some special seeds in their garden. With care and love, tiny seedlings began to sprout, looking quite peculiar. Shortly after, all the gnomes came out to the garden, and they were surprised to discover that the special seeds had grown into beautiful hearts. They shared these hearts with one another and fell asleep on these soft heart pillows as the fairy dust of magical dreams flew over their pointy heads, covering the whole town in love.

During circle time, a mighty dragon from the eastern kingdoms came to visit and shared a special song with us:

There’s a great big dragon coming our way.

A great big dragon on this holiday.

Let’s grab our lanterns and follow along.

Dancing and waving and singing a song.

There’s a great big dragon coming our way.

Hip, hip, hooray!

Let’s wave and say Xin Nian Hao (Happy New Year).

Let’s wave and say Xin Nian Hao.

Xin Nian Hao to all our friends.

Let's wave and say Xin Nian hao.

Each child had a turn gently petting the dragon, and together we named him Fireball.

This week, the children will be introduced to a new song, Chickadee, and a new story, The Cactus Café. They will draw in their journal books as well as continue to work on our auction project.
