Kindergarten Turtles: February 9-13, 2026

Greetings, Turtle Families,

We hope you all had a restful and fun-filled February break.  It was wonderful to welcome the children back to school.

The week before the break, our classroom was filled with love as we celebrated Valentine’s Day together.  Our story was about a man named Papa Giorgio who, while watching the sunrise on Valentine’s Day, had a wonderful idea — he would make Valentine’s gifts for the birds. With loving care, he gathered his supplies and created pinecone bird feeders, hanging them in his yard as special treats. Soon, many birds came to enjoy his gifts, including a few goldfinches — his very favorite bird. Later that day, Papa Giorgio discovered something magical: feathers from the visiting birds, including goldfinch feathers, gathered together in the shape of a heart. The birds had left a Valentine for him 💗

Inspired by the story, we created our own Valentines. The children carefully folded and cut paper hearts and were delighted to open them and discover the beautiful, symmetrical shapes they had made all by themselves. They used crayons and glue to design heartfelt Valentine’s crafts. The children returned to this project many times during the week, and each child made several Valentine creations for the loved ones in their lives. We also made our own pinecone bird feeders to gift to the birds of our forest, just like Papa Giorgio. The students were so excited to watch as birds came to enjoy their special offerings. It was a week full of kindness, creativity, and love.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Paxton’s half-birthday. Paxton’s parents visited our class to share memories from his birth and each year of his life. Paxton was given wishes for the coming year by his family, teachers, and friends. Happy ½ Birthday, Paxton!

This week, the class will begin a new Early Spring circle.  The songs and verses are all about observing the changes in nature as we transition toward early spring. As part of our Waldorf-inspired approach, we seek to cultivate a deep connection to the natural world through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Students can look forward to spending time outside and enjoying the early spring growth and activity of the birds in our classroom.

Spring is coming

Spring is coming, spring is coming.

Birdies build your nest.

Weave together straw and feather

Doing each your best,

Spring is coming, spring is coming.

Flowers are waking too.

Tulips, lilies daffodillies,

All are coming through.

Spring is coming, spring is coming.

All around is fair.

Shimmer quiver on the river

Joy is everywhere, joy is everywhere.
