Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: September 8 - 12, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families
Last week, the Bluebirds chopped apples on Monday and Thursday to help prepare snacks. After watching teachers’ demonstrations and practicing, the children improved their control over their choppers, or wooden knives, and they felt very pleased that they could help. Chopping is a beneficial activity to develop strong fine motor skills and help children build patience. Singing the chopping song while doing the activity motivated them to chop little by little and step by step. You can encourage your children to help prepare dinner at home by inviting them to chop ingredients with you.
Throughout this week, we worked on dyeing golden capes. The children made a dye bath with golden flowers, and the teachers added some turmeric powder to help create a deeper color. Then they soaked their silks in the dye bath overnight, rinsed them with clean water, and hung them to dry. By the end of the week, the Bluebirds were able to wear their golden capes and take them home. Golden capes are dyed for the Day of Courage to represent our inner courage, strength, and light. As soon as the children put on their capes, they said, "I am a superhero, and I am going to save the day!" Each Bluebird is a hero in their own right, as they embrace the new challenge of attending school, making new friends, and discovering their place in the world.
We are excited about the renovation of our small playground. Thank you for your flexibility regarding our morning drop-off location. Even though we had a variety of places to drop off last week, the children's rhythm stayed consistent. After they arrived at school, they had 30 minutes of breath-out time either to play indoors or take a nature walk.
As we enter the final week of summer, we can already sense Lady Autumn's presence. To honor the change of the seasons, we will incorporate a new song, "Summer Goodbye," into our circle time this week. We will also paint golden kites with watercolor during art time.
