Second & Third Grade: September 8-12, 2025
Dear Second and Third Grade Families,
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Community Work Day. We accomplished so much together and truly appreciate your support.
This week, our stories of Noble and Heroic People focused on Workers' Rights heroes, including Emma Tenayuca, Dolores Huerta, César Chávez, and Larry Itliong. Many of these activists began as farmworkers, which connected well with our previous Farming Block. The children began making meaningful connections to the value of hard work and standing up for fairness. The class is also practicing math skills each day. The Second Graders are focusing on place value and have enjoyed learning to sort numbers into ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. The Third Graders are focused on regrouping and are learning to add more complex equations.
This Friday, our class will be participating in the Day of Courage. Each Third Grade student will enter the "Dragon's Den" to retrieve a gem. The students will be accompanied by their Second Grade partner, who will wait for them at the cave's entrance. This special ceremony celebrates the challenges they have worked hard to complete throughout the month. After the ceremony, the children will play games with other classes, led by a group of high school students from Academe of the Oaks. Please remember to send your child in red clothing on Friday.
Lastly, a reminder that Fall Break is next week. We hope you enjoy a restful time with your family!
