Fourth & Fifth Grade: September 8-12, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
We had an information-packed week in our Wonder of Number block!
We began with a review of prime numbers, learning how to easily differentiate them by naming all of their factors. The story of The Tale of Two Kings continued—this time with King Even and King Odd exploring square and triangular numbers. Students began by using gems to create visual representations, which helped deepen their understanding before they verbally explained their findings. They also practiced identifying square and triangular numbers, spotting patterns, and discovering tips for how to quickly determine which category a number belongs to.
In Language Arts, students worked on their improvisational storytelling skills. They completed a scavenger hunt for various words and then used them to craft and share stories. This fun and creative activity is designed to help students add more detail to their storytelling, with the intention of this skill carrying over into more descriptive and thoughtful writing.
One way to support your child’s learning at home is to ask them to name a prime, square, and triangular number and explain how they know. In the upcoming week, the class will continue working with number patterns and “number hacks” as the story of the two kings unfolds.
