Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds: May 19-23, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbird Families,
The Hummingbirds’ last week of school was filled with laughter, lively games of hide and seek, and popsicle-stained faces. The children worked diligently to hand wash, rinse, and hang their classroom linens to dry. The soapy water made for a fun addition to free play after all the work was done! They enjoyed banana “caterpillars”, watermelon, and revisiting their favorite circle songs from the year. The “Chickadee” song from one of our winter circles won as the crowd favorite.
Perhaps the most meaningful moment from the week was when the children had the opportunity to reflect on their growth as they shared their baby photos with their friends and marked their height on a tall board for all to see. One child organically shared, “I used to not like to go very high on the swing at school (long pause)...; now I really do like to go very high!” Around the age of three, children develop a more concrete sense of self as they distinguish themselves from their environment. How lovely that they can begin to reflect on their own experiences in a meaningful way.
It has been a true privilege to guide and care for your children this school year. They have brought so much magic, wonder, and life to our forest and campus. Your children move through the world with great curiosity and care; to know them is to love them. Thank you for your abundant generosity and support this year as a class community; it has been deeply impactful for us as teachers. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school in the fall and hope you have a lovely summer!
Thank you for the honor and joy of being a part of your children's journey!
With Gratitude,
Ki Alycia and Ki Angela
