Kindergarten Honeybees: August 18-22, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

We had a beautiful first full week in our Honeybees classroom. The children are creating friendships, and it’s wonderful to witness them working and playing together with such amiability. We have seen sweet displays of the children helping one another out and sharing. The students are also learning how to navigate taking turns with classroom materials and toys. They have been so receptive to redirection when needed.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers provided by Arya’s family from their very own garden; the children delighted in the purple and fuchsia colors. We also thank Clara’s family for gifting us with homemade berry jam, which we shared with our rice cake snacks- it was a tasty delight. A serendipitous moment occurred Monday as the Honeybee children and teachers scouted the forest looking for the perfect place to hang our new hammock- Ki Derek arrived just in time to help us set it up, and the children immediately put it to good use. We now have two hammocks and a sensory swing, which are in frequent use over the course of our day.

Handwork was introduced this week, and we started off with a very simple but staple project- finger knitting! The children were already excited to make a rainbow finger chain, but first, we would need to practice with just one piece of yarn. On Tuesday, we had watercolour painting with yellow. The children heard a story about Tippy the paintbrush and a demonstration to help them remember each step. As we don’t spend much time inside our indoor classroom, we stayed inside for a little while so they could explore and play inside. Since it rained on Wednesday, we were unable to visit the creek; instead, we visited the farm and fed delicious kudzu to the animals. There were lots of giggles to be had as the soft mouths of the donkeys scooped up the treats from their little hands. Some of us also witnessed a beautiful full rainbow shining over our school that day; it was truly magical. The sun was shining and the rain fell down so gently, it was such a gift for the children (and teachers) to witness this during our school day.
