Fourth & Fifth Grade: August 18-22, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
The class had a wonderful first week diving into the North American Geography I block! This week, we’ve been focusing on the geographical features of the contiguous region of the United States. Each day, the class would shade in a new region of the map and discover the unique characteristics of the place as well as its native crops and wildlife. In addition to the physical geography, the students are also learning about the locations of each state and its respective abbreviation and capital city. To apply their knowledge of the cardinal directions, we did an activity called “Where Am I?” where one student guided another one across the USA using only the directions, and then they guessed which state they should end in. During the afternoon academic period, the students have been reviewing the mathematical facts using the four main operations. This review will help them be set for success when we enter our second block, “The Wonder of Number,” in September.
In the upcoming week, the class will venture out into learning about the non-contiguous states of the United States, as well as the island territories in the Caribbean. From there, they will get a glimpse of the early lifestyles of pre-colonial America and how the indigenous people utilized the land in each geographical region. The students have also been assigned to research two US states of differing regions. They will work on a writing composition and presentation sharing the similarities and unique differences between the two places.
