Sixth & Seventh Grade: January 13 - 17, 2025
Hello, Middle School Families,
Last week, the Sixth and Seventh Graders continued the exploration of perspective drawing. They figured out how to evenly divide spaces in one point perspective. This enables them, for example, to evenly space fence posts, trees, or street lights along a street that narrows into a vanishing point on the horizon in their drawings.
The same method can also be used to evenly space windows on a building or tiles on the floor in perspective. The students finished the week by drawing a checkerboard or chessboard, complete with game pieces on it. For the remainder of the week, the students will be looking into the two-point perspective and learn about Renaissance artists who used perspective in their paintings.
Last week, we also started vocabulary work, and students will have two weeks to work with the assigned vocabulary, learning both the meaning and how to use the words in the context of a sentence. This will help both with spelling as well as comprehension, as the students will be working with the words in multiple contexts. Finally, we closed out the week with a map/explorer test. Block evaluations will be sent home this week! As a reminder, please sign the evaluation and return it in the page protector, but remove all of the other papers from the sleeve (they are for you to keep!)
