Fourth & Fifth Grade: January 13 - 17, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Parents,
This week, our Fourth and Fifth Graders have continued making great strides in their learning! Here’s a glimpse of what they’ve been working on:
The students are solidifying their understanding of fractions through the introduction of multiplication and division of fractions. They’ve found these concepts to be quite enjoyable, as they are straightforward and built on the foundation they’ve already developed. To bring these ideas to life, we have used visual aids and hands-on activities, such as physically dividing objects, to help them see how fractions work in real life. Next week, we will continue practicing these processes and applying them to new challenges.
In Language Arts, the students have been captivated by listening to Indigenous stories, currently focusing on Navajo and Cherokee legends. These stories spark thoughtful discussions and help sharpen recall skills. The class has also been identifying the parts of speech that make up their written summaries, reinforcing grammar knowledge.
Spelling practice has been particularly creative this week, as students are crafting longer, more imaginative sentences using their spelling words. They’re working to include a variety of parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, to make their writing richer and more dynamic.
This week, the students will continue strengthening their math skills with fractions and building on their storytelling and writing abilities. We look forward to more engaging and hands-on learning opportunities in the days to come.
We look forward to seeing you all at our Spring Grades Curriculum night on Wednesday, January 22nd, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. We will start the night with a short meeting to brainstorm ideas for our Hope Blooms class auction project. Following this, you are all invited to visit with our Specialty teachers to learn more about each class. We look forward to your support and attendance.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
