First Grade: February 3 - 7, 2025
Dear First Grade Families,
It was so good seeing each and every parent who attended conferences last week. We are so passionate about our work with your children, and the link to home is so important! Thank you for listening and for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you also for joining us at our Lunar New Year celebration! Each member of the production clearly worked hard to bring it off. We are already looking forward to our next assembly, Grandfriends Tea.
Last week, we wrapped up our second Math Block on a very satisfying ending note, partly because the children became ever more enthusiastic about the subject as the block reached its crescendo, as well as due to the knowledge that this is only a pause. We will look forward to digging back into arithmetic. To be continued! The children's growing interest and excitement over math has been evidenced by some, of their own volition, counting all the steps from the classroom to the picnic tables, skip counting for the fun of it, and begging for another story or drawing about the Math Gnomes.
This week, we are beginning a Language Arts block focusing on phonics, particularly consonant-vowel-consonant words such as “cat.” New worlds will be opened up to these young readers!
