Kindergarten Honeybees: February 10 - 14, 2025
Dear Honeybee Families,
We hope you all had a restorative and joyful Mid-Winter break. We missed our time together and are so happy to welcome the children back!
Before the break, the children created beautiful Valentines by weaving dried flowers between rows of yarn over a cardboard heart. This activity encouraged fine motor skills, patience, and creativity while also connecting us to the natural world through the delicate beauty of dried flowers. Due to the heavy rain and cold, we spent more time indoors, finding warmth in stories, songs, and creative play.
This week, we look forward to spending more time outside, observing the changes in nature as we transition toward early spring. As part of our Waldorf-inspired approach, we seek to cultivate a deep connection to the natural world through meaningful, hands-on experiences. The children will be making bird feeders with sunflower butter and birdseed, an extension of our story, A Million Valentines. This activity nurtures care for the creatures around us, reinforcing kindness, generosity, and the cycles of nature. Instead of our usual vegetable chopping on Tuesday, we will engage in a drawing activity, allowing the children to express their creativity in a different way.
Announcements & Reminders for the Honeybees:
The weather is very unpredictable this time of year. Please remember to include rain gear daily and dress your child in layers. The temperature on weather apps does not necessarily predict how it will feel in the forest, and it is easier to remove layers when students are warm than to help students warm up when they are cold.
