Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbird Families, 

We got a sneak peek of spring weather this week, and the children joyfully made soups with rainwater, listened to the honking geese, brought treats to the eager animals at the farm, and savored all the sensory delights the forest had to offer. Movement is a key part of our daily rhythms—whether it's walking to the forest with "mousie ears" and using their strong, steady feet, engaging in free, unstructured play, exploring the farm, or joining in circle time songs and activities. The Hummingbirds enjoyed nourishing, varied opportunities to enhance their motor skills and coordination throughout the week.

This week, we met new friends – Valentino, Theodore Mouse, Penelope Spider, and Samuel Centipede – in our story Valentino and the Rainbow Hearts.  In the story, Valentino's kind and caring friends step up to help him when he's sick, and once Valentino gets better, he repays their kindness with felted rainbow hearts. (The children have been working hard and having fun creating a special gift for their parents, and they’re excited to bring them home as Valentine's Day approaches.) To celebrate their friendship, Valentino sings:

They’re as special as can be, 

Always giving, sharing, and helping. 

What a blessing they are to me.

We also celebrated Jacob's birthday on Thursday with his lovely family and enjoyed the delicious berries they shared with us. As a wonderful end to the week, the little ones were delighted to watch the Lunar New Year performances by the Grade students. We were in awe of their singing, dancing, puppet show, and fan dance! The little ones remained captivated throughout the entire 25-minute performance, much to the amazement and joy of the teachers.
