Kindergarten Chickadees: January 21 - 24, 2025
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Last week, the students spent extra time at the farm, enjoying the sunshine and petting the goats and donkeys. The children are very respectful of the animals on the farm and approach them gently and calmly. In return, the animals allow them to pet and even brush them. These learning experiences build valuable relationships with the natural world, the opportunity to observe animal behavior, and help students understand the inherent worth of all living things. The children use the same approach with small creatures in the forest classroom, careful not to frighten birds and squirrels or harm worms, insects, or lizards. The little Chickadees are already becoming outstanding stewards of the land they inhabit.
The Chickadee students will engage in a variety of seasonal crafts over the next few weeks. The children will make durable paper dolls with winter gear, which will be used to practice the order for putting on and taking off winter gear. This project will help students become more independent in dressing each day in a new and fun way. The students will also sew felt snakes for the Lunar New Year, which will be a fun “pet” for them to take home and keep! The snakes will be our first sewing project this year, building fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, listening to and following directions, and giving attention to detail. Look for these and other projects to come home in your child’s backpack in the coming weeks.
Announcements and Reminders for Chickadee Kindergarten:
Our class is hosting the school’s Community Work Day from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm this Saturday. While class families are not required to attend, attendance is encouraged. Each family member helping during the work day will also earn volunteer hours. There will be both outdoor and indoor tasks. If you have any tools that may be helpful, please bring them! While children are allowed to accompany their parents to work days, please note that the All School Meeting that follows the work day is for adults only. If your child attends the work day, please ensure they are with you the entire time and do not disturb school toys and materials.
Spring Conferences are coming soon! Please sign up here for a time to meet to discuss your child’s school experience so far this year. Conferences are 20 minutes and will be in the indoor classroom. If there is not a sign up time that works for you, or if you need a longer time to meet, please contact me to schedule your conference for a different time.
